Stand 1 — First training
A rectangular stand with white photographs and text on a red and blue background. At the top of the stand is an inscription in English: «Sambo for the Blind. From the First Training to the World Championship.» Below, at the left edge of the stand, is a blue rectangular area with the inscription: «First Training.» On the right side is the inscription: 2009. Below, at the left edge of the stand, is a photograph of Roman Novikov in a blue sambo uniform against the backdrop of a wrestling hall. To the right of the photo, in a blue rectangle, is the inscription: «The first training of a blind man in sambo began in 2009 at the Zvyaginets wrestling club. Roman Novikov came to the club where healthy wrestlers trained and asked to teach him sambo wrestling.» Under Roman’s photograph is a text — his words from an interview: «Sometimes you don’t need to wait until you are called, until you are offered, until someone does something for your convenience. You need to start acting yourself. Everything starts from the beginning, and you should not be afraid to start.» In the middle of the stand there is a blue rectangle with the inscription: «Learning a technique is the coach’s manual work — you need to put the blind wrestler’s arms and legs in the correct position from the very beginning and every time it is necessary. Then you need to let him feel how the technique is performed. Verbal explanation of the essence and order of actions when performing a technique, repetition and practice of each action that is difficult. At first it will be difficult, but each subsequent studied action, and then the technique, will be remembered easier and faster, muscle feeling, a sense of the partner’s actions, an understanding of what you are doing will develop». At the right edge of the stand, from top to bottom, there are three photographs taken in the Zvyaginets club: Roman Novikov with coach Evgeny Gatkin and the club’s wrestlers. At the left edge of the stand there is text — an excerpt from an interview: «I started training in a regular club, among healthy sighted sambo wrestlers. In the wrestling hall you find yourself among like-minded people, it is not only a sport, it is new acquaintances, lively friendly communication. Sambo very soon took a very important place in my life. I told my friends and acquaintances about my experience; other blind and visually impaired guys began to join our training at the club». At the bottom of the stand in a red rectangle there is an inscription: “OUR EXPERIENCE: there is no need to create special wrestling halls for the blind, it can be any hall with a sambo mat and a sambo trainer who is not afraid to get involved in this work, even if he has never worked with the blind before. The most important thing is motivation, the desire of the blind person and the trainer. During his life without sight, a person knows what kind of help he needs and how it can be provided, and he can say so. It is important not to be afraid to communicate, try new things, act.”
